Island Noises is a setting of words selected from Shakespeare’s Tempest for soprano, violin, bandoneon and piano. It was commissioned for a concert featuring afro-carribean and latin american compositions and conceived as a reflection of the text as a product of the early colonial era interacting with musics produced by colonisation and suggestive of the encounters that colonialism has produced in some sort of dialogue with the other-worldly encounters that the text conjures up.
Island Noises was premiered by Ann Liebeck (soprano), Marcos Madrigal (piano), Omar Puente (violin) and Julian Rowlands (bandoneon).
